6/11/2009 - IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION ABOUT THE NEW "HORSE COLLAR TACKLE" RULE - according to our officials' association, SICOA, the NFHS has issued an explanation of the new horse collar tackle rule which will be enforced in 2009.  Some of the previous information gcyfc received at the annual football coaches clinic was incorrect.  The explanation states that "[a] horse collar is defined as grabbing the inside back collar of the shoulder pads or jersey, or the inside collar of the side of the shoulder pads or jersey, and subsequently pulling the runner down."  This differs from our previous information that stated that grabbing the jersey anywhere on the back and pulling the runner down is a horse collar violation.  The penalty is a personal foul, a 15 yard penalty enforced from the basic spot.  CLICK HERE to download the two page NFHS explanation with further details and photos.
